What does '?' on my 24h card printout mean? The “?” pictogram indicates an unknown time period. This is where there is no activity recorded against the driver. Generally, analysis software will interpret the “?” as an assumed break/rest period. The “?” can typically occur when the driver has not recorded a manual entry for the time period where the card was not inserted into the tachograph. The driver is given the option to record a manual entry when they next insert a card into the tachograph. The manual entry can only be recorded from the last card extraction up until the current card insertion.

How do you record Ferry on your Tachograph? To record a ferry interruption in your tachograph, please refer to the OPTAC3 site here. We recommend consulting with your analysis software provider for ensuring the optimal method for your software. In OPTAC3 we recommend recording the ferry prior to driving onto the ferry/train and recording it again prior to driving off of the ferry/train. During the individual interruption (either when driving onto or driving off of) do not record any break/rest activity as this will end the ferry/train interruption.
